Timber as a building material
Nordstern has experience in using timber in different types of buildings – from student residences and offices to Gladsaxe Health and Employment Centre. Materials are selected on the basis of each project’s architectural, functional and technical requirements.
In projects involving timber structures, we work with areas including documentation, fire safety and moisture management. Timber places specific demands on both planning and construction. We therefore draw on our expertise from an early stage to coordinate the structures, building services and indoor climate requirements.
We provide guidance on material selection and construct timber buildings in accordance with the project requirements and applicable standards.

Exciting Opportunities with wood
Timber has become an established material in construction projects, not only as cladding but also as a significant part of the load-bearing structure. One example is cross-laminated timber (CLT), which allows considerable design freedom and a high degree of precision during construction.
The material places specific demands on both planning and construction, and we therefore follow developments in the field closely. We continually build on our experience and have delivered projects such as Håndværkskollegiet in Horsens, where timber and CLT are central to both the structure and the architecture.
Certified construction
Material selection forms part of the calculation of a building’s climate impact and may form part of the basis for its certification. The significance of timber depends on the specific project, the origin of the material and the supporting documentation.
At Trærækkerne and Åens Hus in the new Trælasten district in Aarhus, timber is used both externally and internally. The two projects also incorporate reused glulam beams in walls and floor structures.
