Timber Constructions

Timber as a building material

At Nordstern, we work actively with timber as a central building material. We have developed strong expertise in timber construction through a range of projects – including a health and employment centre and an award-winning student residence. Our approach combines the material’s technical properties with high demands on both functionality and aesthetics.

Timber construction requires expertise, particularly when it comes to managing moisture. A carefully considered moisture management strategy is essential to protect the structure and ensure a long service life. At Nordstern, we have solid experience in managing ventilation, moisture barriers and climate conditions, enabling us to deliver timber buildings that meet both the client’s ambitions and applicable standards.

„In connection with the construction of Håndværkskollegiet, we have had to consider many special ties and connections in relation to quality, process and deliveries, among other things. All the challenges we have encountered along the way, Nordstern has solved professionally and up-front.“

CEO, Fonden for Håndværkskollegier (BRF)

Exciting Opportunities with wood

Wood has truly gained a place as a material in construction projects, not only as cladding, but also as an essential part of the load-bearing structure in the form of CLT elements.

Using wood in structures requires a high level of expertise. We therefore constantly follow developments in the area and learn from the projects we build, so that we have the skills to carry out complex wooden constructions, such as Håndværkskollegiet in Horsens, where wood and CLT play a crucial role in the realization of the architectural visions.

Certified construction

The use of certified wood can be one of many means of reducing a building's CO2 footprint and obtaining certification. To achieve the desired certification, wood can be worked with as a recurring material, both outdoors and indoors. This is the case with projects such as Trærækkerne and Åens Hus in the new district of Trælasten in Aarhus. In these two projects, the use of wood goes a step further by, for example, reusing glulam beams for walls and floor decks in the construction.
