Nordstern works according to an environmental, social and governance policy known as ESG. Our specific ESG targets enable us to measure and document the climate and resource footprint of our construction activities, while also working to improve our social initiatives. Our strategy for climate, environmental and social matters is integrated into our project processes. Nordstern has a dedicated department that supports and develops our initiatives
Sustainability Strategy
We act with consideration and are mindful of the construction industry’s impact on the climate, the environment and natural resources. Constructing buildings requires raw materials and generates waste and greenhouse gas emissions, among other impacts. Nordstern therefore has a strategy that defines how we address these matters and monitor developments.
Our ESG strategy is based on three main areas:
- Becoming carbon neutral by 2050 through specific emissions-reduction targets.
- Applying specific project requirements concerning areas such as materials, energy consumption, waste, documentation and certification.
- Attracting and developing the talent of the future.

Future-proof construction
The construction of the future is not only about meeting requirements, but also about staying ahead. At Nordstern, we work across disciplines to develop solutions that can be documented, realised and adapted over time.
We optimise structures, minimise material consumption and incorporate requirements relating to CO₂, indoor climate and accessibility from the outset of each project. We involve specialists in engineering, material selection, operations and structures early in the process because this results in better buildings and greater predictability throughout the project.
At the same time, we build up experience and data through our projects, enabling us to continuously improve solutions and provide a stronger basis for decision-making for both clients and users.
The UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals
Nordstern’s ESG strategy is based on five of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, enabling us to contribute positively to a more sustainable development for the individual, and for our planet.

Initiatives for a Responsible Construction Process at Nordstern Construction Sites
At Nordstern, we apply specific requirements concerning resource consumption and material management in our construction projects. As part of our strategy, we have defined a range of measures relating to waste management, energy consumption and the use of materials.
These measures are incorporated into the planning and day-to-day operation of our construction sites through common standards.
Our employees use a consolidated overview of the on-site measures. This is adapted to each individual project and describes which measures are relevant and how they can be implemented in practice.
Several of the measures are based on collaboration with regular suppliers. Alternative solutions may be selected if they meet the same requirements and can be provided on more favourable terms.
The key is to ensure that requirements relating to areas such as resource consumption, waste and materials are managed consistently across all projects, regardless of their size and scope.
The defined measures provide a common framework for planning, documentation and follow-up concerning resource consumption and material management on construction sites.
