Waste Management

By 2025, at least 70% of waste from Nordstern’s construction sites will be recycled

Recycling and sorting

The construction industry generates 35% of Denmark’s waste. To reduce the volume of waste and increase the recyclability of waste in the construction industry, Nordstern have since 2021, mapped the volumes and handling of waste from our constructions sites. These data is analyzed to enable us to set relevant reduction targets.

Dishwashers have been installed on all construction sites to eliminate the use of single-use plastics. We also focus on proper waste sorting and follow-up.

In 2023, 58% of sorted waste from our construction sites was sent for recycling, 40% went to incineration and 2% to deposit. A quantity we focus on increasing in 2024. Our goal by 2025 is to achieve 70% recycling.

We are currently engaged in a pilot project at Trælasten, where all usable materials from the existing buildings on the site are catalogued so that they can be used in future buildings on the site.

We work with concrete initiatives

Recycling

In Nordstern, we have, among other things, recycled bricks from existing buildings that were to be demolished. The bricks are used in the construction of new buildings.

By recycling different materials, it is possible to skip raw material extraction and production. This contributes positively to both the economy and the emission of CO2 in our buildings.

Recycling (waste sorting)

In Nordsten, we have, among other things, recycled crushed concrete from demolished buildings for foundations in new buildings.

In waste sorting our construction sites, our aim is to be able to recycle as many materials as possible.
