The patient hotel at the former Aarhus Municipal Hospital has been converted into 132 student homes
The patient hotel at the former Aarhus Municipal Hospital has been converted into 132 student homes. These student homes are part of the large campus area, Universitetsbyen.
The former Aarhus Municipal Hospital was acquired by FEAS in May 2019, and since then, the buildings have been converted into university and research facilities, student housing, small shops, a daycare center, and commercial spaces. The student housing is thus part of a larger transformation that constitutes an expanded campus area, Universitetsbyen, for Aarhus University. The renovation aimed not only to update the existing buildings but also to transform them into an entirely new study environment.
Universitetsbyen offers both indoor and outdoor communal areas. The dormitory with the student homes includes facilities such as a party room, laundry, workshop, and rehearsal rooms.
The central foyer area with access to all floors has been preserved during the renovation, and the rooms that previously served as the patient hotel have been maintained to the greatest extent possible. This includes a total of 54 rooms, seven of which are accessible for residents with disabilities. The remaining 78 student homes have been newly designed while respecting the building's original structure.
In connection with the renovation, the roof and windows have been replaced, and the buildings have been environmentally remediated.
All homes have their own bathroom and kitchenette.
