Expansion of the radiotherapy department at Næstved Hospital

Radiotherapy, Næstved Hospital

The extension is 1,800 sq m with two linear accelerators

Nordstern has constructed the extension to the radiotherapy department at Næstved Hospital as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and is responsible for the exterior operation and maintenance, while Industriens Pensionsforsikring handles financing for a 10-year period. The building is leased to Region Zealand.

The extension is 1,800 sq m and is built as an extension of the existing radiotherapy department, which after the expansion comprises 4,500 sq m. The expansion increases the existing radiotherapy capacity at Næstved Hospital from three to five linear accelerators. Patient and staff facilities are included in the extension.

The project included a minor remodeling of nearly 200 sq m of the existing building.

The existing radiotherapy department and the remaining part of Næstved Hospital remained operational during the project, which required attention to access routes, noise, and dust.

Architecturally, the extension is built in accordance with the existing building in a mix of red and yellow bricks, glass, and aluminum.

During the project execution and operational period, sustainability and energy consumption in the construction were continuously addressed to create the optimal conditions for radiotherapy at Næstved Hospital. The linear accelerators and associated data equipment place a load on the building, requiring stringent measures for heat dissipation and precautions against transmission noise and vibrations.
