Pavilion for the artwork Pietas at Gødstrup Regional Hospital

The artwork Pietas used to be located in the Regional Hospital in Herning, but in the context of the construction of the new Regional Hospital in Gødstrup, which will replace the hospital in Herning, the artwork had to be moved. As the work of art requires an unbroken wall surface of 20 metres, it was not possible to place it in Gødstrup Regional Hospital. Accordingly, Central Denmark Region wanted to build a separate building for the artwork.

The project included a triangular building which functions as an exhibition space for Svend Wiig Hansen’s artwork Pietas and a reflection room for patients, relatives and other guests. The seven-metre-high building is 24.7 metres on each of its three sides. The 20-metre long x 3-metre high artwork consists of 326 ceramics.

The building is has a 5-square meters technical room, a 33-square meters arrival hall and a 203-square meters exhibition space and reflection room.

The building is a brick construction painted with white mineral silicate paint. The floor of the exhibition space and reflection room is made of granite, and the roof is covered with black roofing felt.
