Construction of a multi-functional building for the 'International School Ikast-Brande (ISIB)'

Nordstern built a multi-functional building, Hjertet (The Heart), for Ikast-Brande Municipality for the International School Ikast-Brande (ISIB). The purpose of Hjertet is to create a meeting place for culture and communication in the centre of Ikast. Hjertet is a flexible, multi-functional building that brings together teaching, activities, community, exercise and play.

The 3,800-square meters multi-functional building consists of three main spaces: The Multi-hall, the Reflection Room and the Street Sports Hall.

The 246-square meters Multi-hall is used for dance, rhythmics, gymnastics, martial arts and large meetings. The Reflection Room can be used for yoga, dance, singing and gymnastics. The Reflection Room has also has access to a terrace. The 366-square meters Street Sports Hall can be used for basketball, skating, hockey, dance and gymnastics. Associations and self-organised groups can book the rooms for a fixed hourly price.

The multi-functional building has meeting rooms, a communal square, a café and teaching facilities, where ISIB and Youth Education Guidance (UU) have a permanent place. The communal square has stage facilities for use at larger events.

The building is constructed in a combination of steel and concrete, while all facades and roof surfaces are covered with mouldings. In collaboration with three artists, Hjertet has been decorated with several works of art both inside and outside.

Around the building there are facilities for skating and other sports activities. A lake was also constructed to harvest rainwater.
