298 dorm rooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces
Nordstern has constructed the PFA Dormitory in Odense with 298 dorm rooms.
The building is shaped like a figure eight to enhance social sustainability. From any point along the corridor, residents can access the common areas, which include a party lounge, a study lounge with a reading room, a fitness room, and a music room.
The outdoor areas are also designed with community in mind. Part of the landscaping includes herbs that can be used in the shared kitchen.
In addition to fostering personal and social development, the PFA dormitories aim to support a strong shared learning environment that allows for inspiration, immersion, and collaboration. Therefore, there was a strong focus on indoor climate and acoustics to create a positive atmosphere for the residents.
A commissioning approach was emphasized during the construction. To ensure that all participants worked toward the same goals, everyone was clearly informed of the established goals.
Sustainability played an important role in the construction. All materials were chosen to be as natural and raw as possible, leading to low operating and maintenance costs.
PFA Kollegiet is DGNB Gold certified according to DGNB manual 2016 Renovation and new construction. The certification is issued in 2021.
