17,000 square meters of public housing in three blocks of apartments.
Nordstern has taken over the completion of 50 family homes and 300 youth homes on Olof Palmes Allé in northern Aarhus. The project was tendered with 40% completion after the previous turnkey contractor went bankrupt. The building is located on the site of the former college of journalism.
The project includes the construction of 17,000 square meters of public housing in three blocks of apartments. There will be communal areas in the buildings and on the roof terraces, where residents will have the opportunity to build communities.
The youth homes will have a total living area of 12,000 square meters, while the family homes will make up 5,000 square meters. There will be two sizes of youth homes: 38.5 square meters and 42.5 square meters, and all apartments will have its own kitchen and bathroom. The family homes vary in size between 60 square meters and 115 square meters with one to three rooms.
The buildings will be constructed in concrete in the form of sandwich elements, and in wood in the form prefabricated timber cassettes. The facades of the buildings will be covered with screen cladding tiles in a light-grey shade. The family homes will have balconies, with the facade behind clad with wooden panels. The architecture of the buildings and choice of materials have been chosen to create cohesion between the preservation-worthy main building from 1972 and the three new buildings.
There will be 75 parking spaces for cars at ground floor, and 650 parking spaces for bicycles in two basements under the building.
When the project was taken over, one of the three buildings had its façade closed, while the carcass was finished on one building and half finished on the third and last building.
