Senior community with cooperative housing and community centre

The cooperative housing association Oasen in Trekroner, Roskilde, is a new senior living co-housing scheme. At Oasen, the focus is on community and diversity, which is reflected in the communal areas.

Oasen consists of 42 homes in four, three-storey winged buildings. The homes are between 75 sq m and 90 sq m. The co-housing scheme has a 300-sq m communal building that provides the setting for shared activities in the senior co-housing scheme. Senior housing comes in different types and sizes, some of which are equipped for wheelchair users.

The homes have level-free access to all rooms on the three floors, including lifts in the stairwells and no doorsteps in the homes or communal areas. The senior housing are well-lit and well-organised with open-plan layouts. Each property has either a spacious patio or balcony.

The communal areas allow residents to meet up both outside and inside the communal building. The outdoor areas include a large green space, a petanque court, a fire pit and vegetable gardens. The building creates an indoor space to support residents' social interaction, providing opportunities for communal dining and yoga, for example.
