Complete renovation of an existing warehouse, creating open-plan offices and a commercial part

Nordstern's office at Havnetrekanten in Horsens played a major role in the transformation of Horsens’ waterfront from a former industrial and cargo harbour to a vibrant, urban area with industry, housing and shops.

The heritage building, Stykgodspakhus with its characteristic shape was completely renovated and converted into an office building.

The project respected the original architecture and choice of materials. Just as on the original building, the roof is clad in natural slate. There are now approximately 60 office spaces in an open-plan office environment next to the windows of the totally renovated warehouse. In the centre of the building and in the tower there are internal meeting rooms.

Access to both the new building and the renovated warehouse is via a lightweight glass structure that connects the buildings.

The five-storey commercial section includes 175 open-plan office spaces, external conference and meeting rooms, a canteen and a commercial premises in the shape of a retail space on the ground floor. There is a full basement under the new commercial section. This placed great demands on the structure, as the basement had to be excavated just 10 metres from the harbour basin.

The project set out to ensure harmonious cohesion with new and existing buildings. Rustic, reddish bricks were used to match the neighbouring buildings with English bond as on the Stykgodspakhuset warehouse.

There are outdoor car parks next to the building. In tandem with the construction of the commercial part, Horsens Municipality refurbished the quayside around Havnetrekanten.
