All 18 flat blocks are being retrofitted with new insulation, facades and roofs
Renovation of Hedemarken’s 888 public housing in Albertslund near Copenhagen. The unit was built in 1967-69 and the renovation is financially supported by Landsbyggefonden, facilitating radical renovation of facades and roofs etc.
The homes are situated in 18 blocks of apartments: 6 low-rise, and 12 high-rise. All blocks are being retrofitted with new insulation, facades, and roofs.
Before the renovation, only the homes in the 6 low-rise blocks had French balconies; the homes in the 12 high-rise blocks had no balconies. As part of the renovation, all homes will either have their balcony replaced with a larger one or have a balcony built on.
Most apartments will be occupied during the renovation. Residents in eight apartments will be relocated, as the apartments will be converted into accessible housing with a lift in the stairwell. In the context of the demolition and conversion, environmental remediation will include the removal of asbestos.
After the renovation, there will be a total of 852 homes in Hedemarken.
Solar panels will be installed on the blocks of apartments as part of a Landsbyggefonden pilot project. In addition to solar cells, the retrofitting of the apartments will help reduce the climate impact of the building stock, which will also reduce the heat consumption of each individual flat.
Outdoor spaces will be given updated courtyards and paving.
