Replacement of windows, doors and modernisation of all plumbing
Flintebakken consists of 316 public housing in two- and three-storey blocks, built in 1978.
The renovation included exterior brickwork repairs, and replacement windows and doors to reduce energy consumption in the apartments.
Half of the external access stairs were replaced.
In about half of the homes, the bathrooms were partially renovated. The priority was good, long-lasting solutions when it came to materials, installations and new fixtures and fittings. All plumbing was modernised, including replacement of risers for domestic water in shafts. Separate water meters were installed, which raised awareness about saving water.
The balconies were strengthened by installing a new roof and glass balustrades. This also adds to comfort, opening up and bringing more light into the home.
Maintenance-free solutions governed the choice of materials, which helps the housing association in its management of the ongoing maintenance obligation.
The renovation was completed without the need for rehousing and anchored via a resident-elected building committee and regular resident briefings. During the planning and construction phase, great emphasis was placed on coordinating the work to minimise disruption to local residents. This included logistics on the construction site and ensuring good access routes for residents.
Flintebakken was delivered ahead of schedule in January 2016.
