Development of empty commercial property in collaboration with the City of Copenhagen
Sundmolen is an extensive residential project in Copenhagen, which Nordstern developed and built for CapMan Real Estate. The building was constructed on an empty commercial site in close cooperation with the City of Copenhagen throughout the process.
Sundmolen was built in three stages: Sundmolehusene, CPH Porthouse and Copenhagen Square.
The second stage was CPH Porthouse, which consists of 86 one- to three-bedroom owner-occupied apartments ranging in size from 61 to 143 sq m – all with large balconies, terraces or roof houses.
CPH Porthouse drew on architectural references from the typical Copenhagen block, based on the classic building style of the bridge neighbourhoods in a modern and reinterpreted version. The heights of the buildings were adapted to the surrounding green spaces and views towards the harbour, providing pleasant light and shade conditions. There are also passages at full building height, which help draw light into both courtyards and homes.
With its facades in varying materials, light colours and alternating between recessed and protruding, the building contrasts with the rustic red bricks of the warehouses, which form a striking motif on the pier.
CPH Porthouse is a functional, modern building with views of the water and access to common areas including a courtyard with a barbecue area, a play area and direct access to the harbour baths in Nordhavn.
CPH Porthouse is DGNB Gold certified according to DGNB manual Renovation and new construction. The certification is issued in 2019.
