Renovation of 138 social housings
Nordstern has renovated 138 council homes for BoMidtVest in Ikast.
Divided into four blocks, the homes has been given new kitchens and bathrooms. Residents were being consulted on the selection of materials, giving them the opportunity to put their own personal stamp on their homes.
The refurbishment involved carpentry work and the replacement of floors and ceilings. To improve the indoor climate, we were replacing the insulation and fittings.
For the project, it was paramount to preserve the overall appearance of the buildings, with their red brick, square windows and vertical facade lines. Accordingly, the new brick wall not only looks like the original, it is also constructed on the existing foundation and the exterior thermal envelope. On all four blocks the roofs were replaced with metal roofing, with a foundation of roof boards and roofing felt.
There were new outdoor common areas for residents.
During most of the refurbishment process, residents in those blocks affected were being rehoused. During the renovation, the blocks were occupied by the construction worker while they worked in the neighbouring building.
The project were submitted in July 2024.
