Nordstern to complete residential area for Østjysk Bolig

January 9, 2024

Nordstern has entered into an agreement with Østjysk Bolig on the completion of 350 youth and family homes on the site of the old School of Journalism. The project planning has already begun, and construction is expected to start in early 2024.

In 2020, Østjysk Bolig sent to tender the construction of 350 youth and family homes in northern Aarhus, but construction came to a halt with JFP's bankruptcy in 2022. In the retender in 2023, Nordstern won the tender and started the review of the design and execution of the project. The full review of the half-finished project is now ready, and Østjysk Bolig through administrator Lejerbo and Nordstern has thus been able to enter into a contract for the completion of the 350 homes.

"We are really looking forward to getting the construction of the 350 homes started again. Of course, it has not been optimal that it has stood still for so long, so we are pleased that Nordstern is ready to go, so that the homes can contribute to even more life in the new district around the old School of Journalism and Kulturhus Bunkeren," says Hosea Dutschke, Business Manager at Lejerbo/Østjysk Bolig.

When the residential area dept. 27 is completed, it will contain 300 social housing units totalling approx. 12,000 m2 and 50 family homes totalling approx. 5,000 m2, including common areas and associated outdoor areas.

Construction was started up under JFP, and at the bankruptcy in 2022 then halted. Nordstern takes over a building where approx. 50% of the building has been built. There are a total of three buildings, one of which has a closed facade, the other has a finished shell building, and the third has only a half-finished shell building.

"It is always challenging to take over an ongoing project, but Østjysk Bolig by administrator Lejerbo has with their positive and solution-oriented approach contributed to setting the direction for the completion of the project. We are pleased with the trust they have shown us in awarding the task, and we look forward to delivering 350 beautiful homes for young people and families in 2025," says Group CEO Torben Modvig, Nordstern.

The new residential area is expected to be completed in autumn 2025.
