Det nye Sølund is back on track

Nordstern has won the main contract for Det nye Sølund
Samvirkende Boligselskab (SAB) and Nordstern have signed a conditional construction contract of DKK 1 billion for the construction of the new Sølund.
"Copenhagen is sorely lacking both youth and nursing homes, and the new Sølund with its mixed housing forms and new, open spaces will be a great asset in Nørrebro. We are therefore very pleased that the construction is now getting started again," says John B. Sørensen, Chairman of SAB.
The new Sølund will consist of a modern nursing home, children's institution and youth housing. It will provide many opportunities for togetherness across generations and with the district's other residents.
"I am very pleased that the new Sølund is now moving forward, and that construction can start soon. We urgently need the homes, because there are more and more elderly people in Copenhagen, whom we must be able to offer a nursing home place when they need it. The Sølund project has been plagued by major delays, and now we are doing everything we can to make it successful this time," says Health and Care Mayor Sisse Marie Welling (SF).
The construction project has been on hold since spring 2022, when the collaboration with the previous contractor was terminated due to financial, non-contractual additional claims. Following the signing of a contract with Nordstern, SAB looks forward to resuming construction at the end of 2023/beginning of 2024.
"The construction of the new Sølund is a complex task that we will solve to the fullest. We look forward to working with SAB and the City of Copenhagen on this unique project, and look forward to delivering much-needed high-quality public housing to Copenhagen," says Torben Modvig, Group CEO Nordstern.
The entire construction project is expected to be completed in 2029.
